HENDRICK CCN Page 1
Tourism Board Awards $5,000 Grant for Hendricks Park Brochure
The Lane County Tourism Board has awarded a $5,000 "special projects" grant to the Public Works Department to develop and produce 5,000 color brochures
to promote the internationally known Hendricks Park and Municipal Rhododendron Garden. The grant application received the endorsement of two prominent
local nurserymen, Roger Gossler of Gossler Farms Nursery, and Harold Greer of Greer Gardens. The department will provide matching funds of $500, and
department staff will write and design the new brochure.
The original brochure, printed in 1987, has been out of print for several years. The updated brochure will include photos, a map of the garden, and
informative text on the plant displays along the memorial trails. Hendricks Park is Eugene's first city park. The 77 -acre park includes an eight -acre showcase
featuring more than 6,000 rhododendrons and ornamental plants, meandering walkways, pleasant seating areas, a Large, forested area with 300 - year -old
Douglas fir trees, and hiking trails overlooking the Willamette River, the University of Oregon, and the city of Eugene.
For more information, call Bob Hammitt at 687 -5220 or Michael Robert, Head Gardener at Hendricks Park, at 687 -5324.
