Education
Educating the general public as to native plants, their growing conditions, and
encouraging their incorporation into urban landscapes is a very important objective of the
native plant garden and of this funding plan. Therefore organizations dedicated to the
Native Plant Garden concept must be enlisted as "partners" to assist in developing
appropriate materials and conducting tours, classes, etc.
Plant signage — appropriate signage must be placed near the plants, noting both common
and botanical name. Additional information about the plants would be beneficial.
Garden map — should be developed and maintained to describe where the various native
plants are typically found, their desired growing conditions and needed care.
Activities — tours and classes should be conducted throughout the year to show people
how native plants can enhance their landscapes at different times during the year.
Hendricks Park Native Plant Garden Guidelines
Author: Jerry Blakely Page 3 Rev., 13 April 2013
