Letter regarding Proposed Parking Lot near Gillespie Butte Park
July 25, 2007
Page 2
b. Our development's landscape design (an Oak Savannah plant pallet) is consistent with
the park's natural oak landscape.
c. The public street system (Crenshaw Street) extension across the very southwest
corner of the park is built as the City designed and envisioned this street to be
constructed. It is only a change from one public purpose use to another public use,
from "public open space -park to a "public street ". (Again, built at Owner's expense,
and also benefiting the park.)
d. We were asked by City Planning staff to vacate the existing "on paper only" street
because it doesn't conform to current street design standards and is too steep, coming
straight up the hill and forming an intersection with Crenshaw Street. Staff requested
a continuation of Crenshaw that formed a smooth, less steep street transition.
e. In the past, "improving access" to the park was always in terms of public pathways/
walkways to the site, not a parking lot.
In summary, we believe parking at this location would be contrary to the public's best interest
due to the cost and other unintended consequences.
Sincer y,
Larry .
