d. The City's current right of way continues the extension of Crenshaw to the south of park property. While
this current alignment does not meet current street design standards, it cannot be assumed that the only
alternative involves a taking of park property.
e. The intent of the project as identified in the PROS Project and Priority Plan and funded through the 2006
Bond Measure is to acquire additional land to provide a minimal amount of parking for patrons to visit
this unique and special natural area. This resource is one that is valued by the entire community, and it
is therefore appropriate to accommodate access by providing an appropriately - scaled amount of parking.
We cannot support the current development proposal because of the loss of parkland and the lack of any
substantial benefit to the park resulting from the proposal. I'd be open to exploring additional ideas and
proposals you may have that would provide a benefit to Gillespie Butte Park and your development. Please
feel free to contact me to continue this discussion.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Weiss
Parks and Open Space Planning Manager
541- 682 -4909
cc: Kurt Corey, Public Works Director
Johnny Medlin, Parks and Open Space Division Manager
Russ Royer, Senior Real Property Officer
