%
EUGENE
Planning & Development
i Building & Permit Services
City of Eugene
99 West 10 Avenue
Eugene, Oregon 97401
(541) 682 -5086
(541) 682 -5593 FAX
www.ci.eugene.or.us
October 23, 2001
Jeff Faust
Sheldon High School
2455 Willakenzie Rd.
Eugene, OR 97401
Dear Jeff,
After extensive research, deliberation and numerous site inspections over the last year, the Land
Use Management staff have determined that the temporary "sponsor" signs erected facing the
Sheldon multi -use and baseball fields primarily during football, soccer and baseball games, as
well as the multi -use field scoreboard and sponsor sign, do not warrant enforcement action by
the City. These graphics may meet the definition of sign in the Eugene Code by communicating
a message off the development site. However, it is the City's opinion that any impact from the
signs themselves is not significant enough to warrant initiating enforcement action with the
City's limited resources.
This determination was based on the following conditions:
1. The football and baseball sponsor signs will be erected no sooner than the day before
the athletic event and will be removed no later than the day after the event.
2. Prior to baseball activities at which signs are erected, a screen approximately 6 feet
high (as was used during last season) will be erected along a fence on the west property
line parallel to Norwood street starting south of the bleachers located near first base and
continuing to the south until the fence intersects the right field fence. The screen will be
extended from this point in an easterly direction along the right field fence for a distance
of roughly 25 feet to limit vision of the signs from dwellings to the southwest. This
screen meets the intent but may not fully satisfy the specific requirements of the stadium
sign exemption listed in E.C. Section 9.6610.
