Purpose of Contacts <br /> ee l <br /> Contacts are necessary for such activities as 1) obtaining information and comments concerning <br /> proposed uses (education, recreation, scientific, interpretive, industrial/commercial, and public <br /> works) of the project area; 2) coordinating meetings; 3) obtaining input concerning methodology <br /> and techniques of human, area, and resource management; 4) enforcing regulations; 5) developing <br /> information for planning purposes; 6) presenting programs; 7) team leadership and 8) fund raising, <br /> grant writing, etc. <br /> Characteristic of the purpose of contacts at this level are demands that require the incumbent to <br /> meet and deal persuasively with local landowners or other agencies or private conservation <br /> organizations on matters pertaining to appropriateness of various land uses when controversial <br /> issues develop, or when heated issues occur that pertain to the needs for compliance with Federal <br /> regulations, policies and practices. The incumbent is required to persuade, influence or negotiate <br /> with various organizations or individuals who have conflicting views and interests in the use (non- <br /> use) of public lands and various resources so as to reach agreement consistent with established <br /> policy, regulations and overall agency goals. The incumbent will be required to justify the <br /> feasibility and desirability of significant plans and proposals. <br /> Factor 8, Physical Demands <br /> The work requires recurrent periods of standing, walking over rough or slippery terrain, typical of <br /> wetlands or riparian areas and be exposed to temperature and weather extremes. The incumbent <br /> will be required to walk some distances cross - country. Operation of a Government vehicle is an <br /> integral part of the job and the incumbent should possess a safe driving record. <br /> Factor 9, Work Environment <br /> Incumbent is required to wear the Official BLM uniform at times. The incumbent will work in <br /> office and field settings. Field work generally will be in areas where wet hummocky terrain <br /> presents; slick walking conditions and associated hazards of slipping and falling. The <br /> environmental conditions can be damp, cold, and wet during much of the year.
