Where a school already exists and a park is needed, sufficient ad- <br /> ditional land will be acquired by the City to create an integrated site, <br /> when and if this is economically and physically possible. And conversely, <br /> the District will locate school sites adjacent to existing park sites <br /> when this is economically and physically possible. <br /> II. DEVELOPMENT <br /> 1. Whenever possible, development of school and park facilities on an <br /> integrated site shall proceed concurrently, with full consultation <br /> between the City and the District, before any construction begins. <br /> 2. If concurrent development is not possible, the School Administration <br /> shall be consulted in the event the park area is being developed first <br /> or the City Administration shall be consulted in the event the school <br /> is being built first, in order to ensure orderly and economical develop- <br /> ment of the integrated site and thus not building duplicate facilities. <br /> 3. The Architect of a school or the Landscape Architect of a park shall be <br /> instructed to maximize the joint use of certain specified facilities <br /> (e.g., play equipment, gymnasiums, swinrninq pools, locker rooms, craft <br /> and hobby ro ms, rest rooms, etc.) by locating them carefully so that they <br /> may be conveniently used by the patrons of park or school personnel. <br /> 111. OPERATION <br /> 1. In the joint use of facilities, the liability of the City and the District <br /> dod the ri:•,•v.)ns ibi 1 i ty for maintenance and upkeep shall be carefully spelled <br /> out in contracts between the City and the District. <br /> 2. _rc_ shall be a se•pariite contract for each integrated site development and <br /> operation, _'.ta.ing e.Jch agency's responsibilities.
