Scobert Park Advisory Committee
Page 2
October 31, 1996
comment section. To add balance to this category, a City staff person was added to
support the committee as a professional horticulture advisor.
The boundaries for the West Blair Neighborhood as defined in the Whiteaker Plan were
used when selecting applicants to represent that category. Several of these applicants
actually reside outside of these boundaries and were therefore ineligible to represent this
interest.
Applicants for the within one block category also met the West Blair Neighborhood
criteria, so we considered them for both categories.
We were unable to contact some of the applicants despite several attempts. Also, after
being contacted some applicants made the decision not to be on the committee or had
scheduling conflicts.
An effort was made not to select more than one applicant from the same household in
order to spread the representation.
One of the ways you as committee members can ensure that a balance of interests are represented
is to discuss the outreach methods you plan to enact. You can bring to the table, the thoughts and
ideas of others from the community and voice their concerns. Another way for others to express
their views is by the form of public input the committee wishes to establish. These are examples
of the methods you as a committee can discuss to achieve the common goal of making Scobert
Park safe for the entire community.
We recommend that you take some time to review the City of Eugene Boards & Commissions
Manual that was included in your notebook. It contains information that should be useful in
helping you understand how committees are formed and general guidelines for committees.
We look forward to working with this committee to resolve the problems affecting Scobert Park.
c
