Like our neighbors up the street around Monroe Park, we are frustrated by the
seeming lack of concern for our neighborhood's safety and quality of life. As private
citizens, we have done all we can — within the law. The frustration level among some of
us is very high, as we watch the distressing scene repeat itself year after year.
We implore you to help us in reclaiming our parks (Scobert and Monroe) so they
can be used as they were intended: by anyone willing to obey the law.
We are in dire need of old -style community policing by individuals who become
part of the neighborhood fabric. We would like to see a pair of bicycle cops dividing their
patrol between Scobert and Monroe parks. Dealers and users would quickly realize that
both parks were uncool and they wouldn't shuffle their dealings back and forth.
ONLY a visible police presence will deter these heroin and meth users and
dealers from brazenly going about their business on our sidewalks and parks. Before
spending time and money to build new neighborhood parks, we urge you to take care of
our lovely, but beleaguered, existing ones. Please don't turn a blind eye to this problem
that —one way or another — affects the entire community.
Sincerely,
The Friends of Scobert Gardens
The Friends of Monroe Park
Signatures available upon request
Cc: Majeska Seese - Greene, Whiteaker Community Council
Eric Gran,Friends of Monroe Park
M
{
}
