HAMMITT Bob
From: LYLE Les A
To: KLEIN Glenn; WISE Joan
Cc: MORGAN Dick A; HAMMITT Bob; ANDERSEN Chris F
Subject: FW: Scobert Park
Date: Monday, September 16, 1996 1:37PM
Priority: High
I think the term that created the concern below is "shrub beds" that Dick and I discussed. That term does
not clearly describe the extent of the closure which will likely be everything but the grassy areas in the
front part of the park. So, Joan, Glen, please draft the admin. order such that we can edit /refine over here
after our meeting at 5:00. Thanks Les L
From: NORRIS Linda H
To: LYLE Les A; KLEIN Glenn; WISE Joan
Cc: MORGAN Dick A; HAMMITT Bob; ANDERSEN Chris F
Subject: RE: Scobert Park
Date: Monday, September 16, 1996 1:38PM
The only revision I would make to this note is that we haven't agreed to anything yet in regard to which
part of the park we close off. I asked Bob Hammitt to have his crews look at the park today, and meet
with me and Les at 5pm today to get their recommendations. We'll review the staff's recommendation
with the recommendation from the citizen group, and will make a decision. I'm sure Shawn will also want
to know what we're doing. In terms of the sign, it can just say "Closed for Restoration" if that's easier.
Linda
From: LYLE Les A
To: KLEIN Glenn; WISE Joan
Cc: NORRIS Linda H; MORGAN Dick A; HAMMITT Bob; ANDERSEN Chris F
Subject: Scobert Park
Date: Monday, September 16, 1996 1:18PM
Priority: High
Glen, just so you don't forget, this is what we discussed on
the mall with respect to the Scobert Park closure.
1. Instead of a full closure we are proposing to fence off
the "shrub beds" in an effort to give them some restoration
time and an ability for staff to go in and do whatever is
needed eg. transplant, prune, cleanup, etc.
2. The signs will say something to the effect " this area
closed beyond this point for vegetation rehabilitation ". I
presume we will include the other legal information we planned
on using on the earlier signs siting the admin. order #, etc.
We can place the signs on the fence if we choose or place
them on posts.
3. The duration should state something to the effect that
this area will be closed up to Dec. 2, 1996 to give us the
latitude to open it sooner if necessary.
4. Dick and I discussed the fencing as being approximately 42
inches in height and not being chain link ( I think he said
something like farm fencing instead).
Dick, etal, if you have any other thoughts, please let Joan
know so we can have this available for tomorrow. I presume
the closure will be 12:01 but since we won't signing up until
normal work hours, I'm not sure if that is still appropriate.
To keep faith with Shawn, it seems 12:01 would be best unless
there is a legal problem. We can always enforce the park
Page 1
