40 )
Option 4. Pursue Alternatives
Expand criteria to include other park goals in the Santa Clara area, including neighborhood park
acquisition, riverfront park acquisition, connectivity, and others. A range of options may include:
Option 4a. Reclass the acquisition to a neighborhood park. Revise criteria to match
market reality and focus on using current funding to purchase a 4 -8 acre neighborhood park site
within an under - served area of Santa Clara. Requires Council action and leaves community park
need unfulfilled. May exacerbate current difficulties as land values increase and more land is lost
to development.
Option 4b. Further amend the acquisition criteria to include large blocks of smaller tax lots
in an idea configuration. Requires Council action to apply additional funding, pursue likely
condemnation, removal of improvements, and location of the park site outside the UGB.
Advantages include the ability to site and assemble a well- suited park site to serve the
community.
Option 4c. Refocus acquisition to include riverfront property. Pursue purchase of a large
block of riverfront property previously used for gravel extraction with the intent of reclaiming the
property for use a community park. Requires analysis of reclaimation cost and potential,
discussion of alternatives with gravel company owner, and a' willing seller. Advantages include
low purchase cost, excellent site location on riverbank property, inclusion of significant natural
resource areas, single ownership, possible additional stormwater acquisition funding, setting a
precedent for cooperation with gravel mining and community, and reconnecting Santa Clara to
the river. Disadvantages include the potential cost of reclaimation, establishing good vehicular
access, cost of additional study, and additional time for study and negotiations.
Ned
Santa Clara Community Park Acquisition - Update Page 4
