PROJECT FEATURES and UNIQUE CONDITIONS
A. Specific Project Features
1. Flap Gate Well Inlets — There are 25 inlets to the Amazon Creek Flood Control
Works that incorporate a constructed concrete well at the top of the channel bank
or levee. The wells provide access to flap gates on the channel side of the drain
pipe. In turn, the gates were intended to prevent backflow into specific ditches,
swales or other low areas behind the channel bank (although many of these
areas are now filled). Each well is covered with a thick metal plate that is held
down by one or more large diameter bolts /nuts. These inlets were constructed
as part of the original project and may require periodic inspection and cleaning to
ensure they perform as designed.
The following inlet and station numbers are per the As Constructed drawings for
the Amazon Creek Flood Control Works Project, circa 1951 through 1958.
Inlet # Station # Approximate Location
3 133 +50 South levee, 2400 feet west of Greenhill Road
5 237 +26 East bank, south side of R.R. trestle
6 237 +26 West bank, south side of R.R. trestle
7 245 +00 West bank, 800 feet south of R.R. trestle
8 244 +90 East bank, 800 feet south of R.R. trestle
9 264 +70 South bank, 200 feet east of private vehicle bridge
near the dead end of Terry Street
10 272 +03 South bank, 930 feet east of private vehicle bridge
near the dead end of Terry Street
11 281 +90 South bank, 680 feet west of Danebo Avenue
16 B 344 +65 South bank, just east of the 2 bend of Sam R Street
17 A 353 +64 South bank, slightly east of Wallis Street right -of -way
18 A 377 +49 North bank, 300 feet east of Bailey Hill Road
18 B 382 +50 South bank, 600 feet west of Richardson Bridge
18 C 388 +00 North bank, just east of Richardson Bridge
19 394 +67 South bank, 525 feet west of Acorn Park Street
20 394 +36 North bank, 550 feet west of Acorn Park Street
29 427 +93 North bank, 375 feet west of City View Street
31 437 +20 South bank, 510 feet east of City View Street
32 439 +48 East bank, 70 feet south of W. 13 Avenue
34 449 +00 South bank, 360 feet west of Garfield Street bridge
36 455 +00 South bank, 200 feet west of Garfield Street bridge
41 475 +30 South bank, 135 feet west of Blue Heron bridge
42 479 +65 North bank, 490 feet west of Polk Street
43 479 +65 South bank, 490 feet west of Polk Street
44 481 +25 North bank, 315 feet west of Polk Street
46 490 +15 North bank, 120 feet east of Tyler Street right -of -way
Emergency Response Plan for Amazon Creek 9 September, 2008
P: \Cdocs\AP WARefDocs \E mergencyMgmt
