Nature Center Proposal Page 2
and/or educational outing and an extension of the recreational amenities of the Ridgeline Trail and
Park. Although, because of size and location, it is not anticipated that the Center will ever be a major
out-of -area tourist draw or to attract visitors to the Park to the point of over -use, the Center will be
designed to provide a high calibre experience - allowing visitors the opportunity to feel a sense of
connection with and understanding of their natural community.
Although CRCC will be the official tenant, this nature center will provide the conservation community
with a wonderful opportunity to work together on a project of enormous benefit to the community at
large. Co- sponsored by Lane County Audubon Society, with planned participation of the Native Plant
Society and Nearby Nature, opportunities for University of Oregon students in architecture, landscape
architecture, and environmental education, as well as scout and school projects, the nature center will
bring together the rich resources of our community in an endeavour of broad -based benefit.
The board of directors of Lane County Audubon Society, both as a governing body and as individuals,
has been interested for some years in the idea of developing such an interpretive center as an
extension of the services they can offer the community and opportunities they can offer their
members. With diverse backgrounds from Army Corps of Engineers to graphic designer and
ornithologist, the LCAS board is a considerable resource in itself. Through this site as rallying point
and a staff person as dedicated coordinator, what LCAS or CRCC alone previously lacked, together
they have for the successful development of such a project.
The advisory board that has been put together is designed to complement the LCAS and CRCC boards
with outside viewpoints and strengths, from legal and acccounting to landscape architecture and art.
The City of Eugene is invited to be represented on this board of advisors.
Thank you for your consideration.
ly,
/ :
j 6 Louise A.
