Dave Ritter and I looked at the Tugman ditch <br /> on May 22, 1995. It looks like the type of ditch we are <br /> wanting to see more of throughout the city. After looking at <br /> the ditch and evaluating Tim's comments, I am inclined to <br /> believe our best approach may be to not do anything. The <br /> ditch is going to handle small rainstorms and the ditch and <br /> the terrain will handle medium or severe rainstorm. There <br /> isn't anything short of a major channel that is going to <br /> handle a major rainfall and I doubt even a major rainfall <br /> could be contained with a channel. The ditch is a classic <br /> example of what I visualize as something we want to leave <br /> alone. While I still think cleaning and widening is something <br /> we can talk about and consider, without such a discussion, the <br /> only thing I suggest is for someone to walk the ditch and pick <br /> up a few sticks. Dick tells me that the grass inside the <br /> fence is not as tall as the rest of the field was. This area <br /> will be mowed before June 15th which, according to the City <br /> Code, is "soon enough ". We've been on the current, two times <br /> a season, schedule for most such areas for some time. It is <br /> not a recent "downturn" in maintenance. In fact, we are <br /> moving somewhat faster this season and last as having three <br /> functional mowers (enabling Dick Charles to mow with the other <br /> staff when his schedule permits) and the increased effeciency <br /> of the Tiger have had a positive impact on our rough mowing <br /> operation. <br /> As to Bertini doing some kind of ditching work at <br /> Tugman, it has not been done since I've been Turf & Grounds <br /> Supervisor, which is more than a decade. If such work was <br /> done it was likely done before the rocks were placed in the <br /> stream channel and probably was done using the cat - which we <br /> Page 1 <br />
