So, if you want to ride, come join us. If you and your bike are a bit
rusty, come to the workshop. If you are not sure, ride anyway. You'll be
glad you did!
Phil Weiler, Council and Intergovernmental Services
INFORMATIONAL TIDBITS FROM THE PSO
(Author note: It seems only fitting due to the nature of my contacts this
month, that I turn over the commentary on the month's activity to my dog
Sheldon for his views and reviews.)
I hate when she puts me on the spot like this....but, my Mom is right: I am
much better equipped to offer my insights into her calls for the month of
April than she is. I couldn't believe it when she came home from work and
told me about the call she had from the lady wanting the City to stop all the
cats in the neighborhood from using her yard as a litter box. This woman
even went so far as to tell my Mom that she was going to put a sign in her
yard that said, "No Trespassing." I wondered how long it would take Mom to
tell her that cats can't read. Well, didn't take long...I knew she couldn't
hold that comment back. Geez, the answer was so simple, GET A DOG, LADY!
But, humans tend to make life complicated. Cats reading ? ?? HA! They aren't
that smart.
Now get this...it seems that one human misinterpreted a map on a wall at a
meeting to discuss the future of Amazon Park, and got it in her head that the
Amazon dog off -leash park would be closing. Even though she was told there
were no plans to have the park close, she took it upon herself to organize a
major letter - writing campaign to the Mayor and City Council. Okay, so this
one hit home for me and I even stopped snarfling my body parts and sat up and
took notice.
I think my favorite letter was the one that compared the off -leash park to a
famous bar (that's why Mom liked it) calling it the "Cheers" of the dog
world, and the meeting place for dogs. Humans wrote telling the City that
community diversity includes dogs, and that their dogs wouldn't have it any
other way but to visit the dog park daily. I know you're all wondering how
often I get to go to the dog park. Well, let's just put it this way...I only
get to stay for ten - minute intervals because, well, sometimes I tend to em-
barrass Mom and I seem to have a hard time behaving myself. (I would never
get to have my name in print again if I told you what I do.)
Oh yeah, Mom mentioned some calls about bridges, parked cars (the best kind),
tall weeds, a new library (we know the cats in Eugene won't be using it),
proposed planned unit developments (what ever the heck those are), and I
thought I even heard her say that Don Bischoff sent Mike Gleason a baby pig:
but I think I must have been having a doggie dream. But then again, Mom
keeps saying that human beings never cease to amaze her. I know what she
means!
Dictated over Milkbones to Trina Andresen
Public Service Officer
