ASDetails
May 6, 1994
INDEX: . Quote For The Week
. Business Bicycle Challenge - Friday, June 10
. Informational Tidbits From the PSO('s Dog)
QUOTE FOR THE WEEK
When science discovers the center of the universe, a lot of people will be
disappointed to find they are not it. - Bernard Baily
BUSINESS BICYCLE CHALLENGE - FRIDAY. JUNE 10
If only ONE percent of the car owners in America left their cars parked for
one day a week, we would save an estimated 42 million gallons of gas a year!
You can bring us one step closer to that dream by doing your part. The
cities of Eugene and Springfield, the Lane Regional Air Pollution Authority,
and the Bicycle Federation of Oregon have picked the perfect day to do it,
- Friday, June 10!
The week of June 5 through June 11 has been designated Bicycle Commute Week.
This week -long celebration of two - wheeled travel will be topped off with the
Business Bicycle Challenge on Friday, June 10. We need a large number of
City of Eugene staff riding to work on that Friday so we can win the prize
for the public agency with the highest percentage of employees commuting by
bicycle.
The Business Bicycle Challenge is organizing a big party with music and ice
cream after work on Friday, June 10, to honor all participating businesses
and agencies. More info to come. Please join us!
You can even drive part of the way with your bike in the trunk, park, and
then ride in the last few miles if your commute is a long one. Your
participation in this event can help increase the awareness that cycling is
a logical and efficient mode of transportation in our community.
For those of you who would like to know more about safe bicycle commuting
practices, a lunchtime workshop is being set up. The workshop will offer
advice from an expert bicycle commuter, videos, maps, and more. Stay tuned
for additional information.
No event like this would be complete without a T- shirt. This year's shirt is
a handsome, medium - weight, 100% cotton beauty that features the Business
Bicycle Challenge logo on the back in red and black, with the City logo on
the front left chest. Contact Phil Weiler at x5823 to see the shirt or to
receive an order form. The cost is only $7. The order form and money must
be in by May 16, so call today!
