Child Care Inc. Proposal for Eugene City Council 2
Connection (CCRC), explains that part -time or varying shift child
care "can be hard to locate since it is difficult for child care
providers to offer due to scheduling needs" (memorandum
enclosed). We feel offering flexible scheduling is important to
accommodate the diverse needs of families.
The teacher /child ratio for children in our program is maintained
at 1:6 (as was once required by Federally licensed centers),
exceeding state regulations, which require only a 1:10 ratio.
The center has persisted in this ratio to allow for more one -on-
one and small group interaction between teacher and child than is
possible at the minimum (1:10) ratio. This helps us provide the
individual attention so vital to children at these younger ages.
Child Care Inc. strives to provide a safe and nurturing
environment where the individual needs of each child and family
can be met. Our philosophy is that a healthy community is built
with physically and emotionally healthy children and informed,
involved adults. This philosophy is put into practice by:
• Providing quality child care in a developmentally appropriate
atmosphere
• Serving breakfast, lunch and two daily snacks exceeding USDA
nutritional guidelines
• Providing child development and guidance through parent
consultations and conferences
• Encouraging parent involvement in their child's development
and in participating in the governance of the school
• Providing free bi- monthly educational workshops open to
parents, service providers, and members of the community,
including complimentary meal and child care
• Providing a Summer Fun program for 6 -10 year olds
• Offering emotional and moral support to families
• Serving as a resource for information and referral to
additional community resources
• Networking with other agencies to insure that the needs of
families are met.
We have also begun the process to become accredited by the
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
This is the only professionally sponsored, voluntary national
accreditation process for all types of early childhood centers
and schools, and provides a valuable mechanism to evaluate and
improve the excellence of our program. (Accreditation by NAEYC,
or one of the other nationally recognized associations, is the
one measure of excellence in child care /preschool programs
designated by the Oregon Child Care Commission as a component of
Oregon Benchmarks in November 1992. At that time, only 5.80 of
licensed facilities in the state were so accredited.)
Our mission is to promote a positive model of child care
emphasizing quality and affordable care for families of diverse
incomes and backgrounds by offering fees based on a sliding
Dec. 9, 1994
