Child Care Inc.
Willamette Greenway Use Application
Map No. 17- 04 -25 -13 Tax Lot 700 & 800
117, 119 Thomason Lane
Nature of Request, Introduction:
This is a request for Willamette Greenway Use approval to allow for the building of a
new facility on lots 700 and 800 of Map No. 17- 04 -25 -13 on Thomason Lane, Eugene for
use by Child Care Incorporated of Eugene (dba: Child Care Inc.).
Child Care Inc. is now operating at 169 North Washington Street in Skinner Butte Park,
where they have resided for 27 years.
Child Care Inc. is a community, 501 (c) (3) non -profit preschool / child care center.
Although its doors are open to all families, an average of 80% of enrolled children come
from low- income families due to sliding -scale tuition and flexible scheduling.
The need for Child Care Inc. to move has become particularly apparent since an
evaluation of the current building found that it would require more than $140,000 to
bring it up to current safety and ADA accessibility codes. The city has made the
Thomason Lane site available to Child Care Inc. for the construction of a new building.
Child Care Inc. expects to improve access to its services by nearly doubling their
capacity; by being in full compliance with safety and building codes; and will comply
with the American's with Disabilities Act. The facility and program will exceed
regulations and provide a model facility serving low - income families.
Pertinent Operational Information:
Child Care Inc. expects the same hours of operation at the proposed new facility: 7:30
a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weekdays. The number of teaching staff is currently seven and may
increase with up to 12 working on the premises at any time. Current enrollment is 38
children ranging in age from 2 1/2 to six years of age.
Upon relocation to the proposed new building, the enrollment is expected to increase to
approximately 48 children at any one time including a much needed infant / toddler
program.
The purpose of Child Care Inc. is to provide high quality services at an affordable cost
for all families, with an emphasis on low- income families.
Child Care Inc. is the only center open to all families in the area with tuition based on a
true sliding - scale, with payment according to family size and income and flexible
scheduling.
