Washington Street, Eugene OR 97401
Brief description of services to be provided from the above project location.
The project location would be our new base of operation, replacing the site at 169 N.
Washington St., (within the boundaries of Skinner Butte Park), that we have occupied since
1968.
Child Care Inc. is a community, non -profit 501(C)(3) preschool/child care center. The t c - `- ``` ' 7
school is currently licensed by the state Children's Services Division for 30 preschool aged
children (2 '/i - 6 year olds). The purpose of the school is to provide high quality services at
an affordable cost for all families, with an emphasis on low- income families. The preschool
program provides a safe and nurturing environment where the individual needs of each child
can be met. The proposed project will enable us to expand to serve 40 preschoolers as well ''c: ! t
as 12 infants and toddlers.
Child Care Inc. is open year round, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
Children's scheduling is flexible in order to accommodate the diverse needs of families. The
teacher /child ratio for preschool age children is maintained at 1:6 (as was once required by
Federally licensed centers), exceeding state regulations, which require only a 1:10 ratio. The
center has persisted in this ratio to allow for more one - on-one and small group interaction
between teacher and child than is possible at the minimum (1:10) ratio. The ratio for
infant/toddler care will be 1:4, with plans for a substantial volunteer program to help provide
the individual attention so vital to children at these younger ages.
February 11, 1994
