* Trash /Recycle: Color code or somehow differentiate between trash and recycle
barrels. There was too much inter - mixing of trash and recycle items.
* Employee Awards: Most employees are in their seats and ready to go by 7:30. Have
the Divisional Employee Awards for leadership, etc. presented at the end of breakfast
(7:30 ?) while both Divisions are together. This would add more significance to the
awards rather than have them part of the Safety Awards for each Division. It also enables
employees from each Division to see who was getting recognized. You could alternate
between Divisions for each award. It's a good way to "kick off' and generate interest in
the day's festivities. It would also free up more time for the Safety Awards which
sometimes run a little long and then impacts the start of the different class electives.
* Committee Formation and Work: Start in September /October. We need to line up
speakers, etc. sooner. For the sake of experience and continuity, have some members of
the previous year's committee serve on the present year's committee. This could be
accomplished by making the Safety & Training Day Committee a two year commitment.
The second year employees could then begin work on the issues needing attention (e.g.
new employee photos, topics, and speakers).
* S &T Day format: Half or full day? Decide well before September. Full day is too
cumbersome and logistically difficult with too many classes to line up. How do you use
the afternoon of S &T Day? Have individual Crew meetings /trainings and/or use the
afternoon to start clean up and readiness for Public Works Day in May. Have different
work groups work together on different work projects or show each other what they do
and the equipment they operate in their day to day job? It's the wrong time of year for an
Equipment Rodeo.
* Safety Awards Format: Are things getting "stale "? Do we need a different format?
Have the employees receive their annual Safety Incentive Award from their supervisor?
Keep the Progressive Safety jacket awards the same. Ask employee what they want.
* Publicity: Improve outreach to staff by distributing copies of course selection early via email
and mailboxes. Post large, graphically interesting "event" posters of courses available around
yard at least one week prior to event versus posting actual event program.
•
