Scenario 4
Allan was a long -time employee who had limited access to the City equipment.
Since he worked in the field most of the time, computers weren't available to
him like others who spent more time in the office. When he made it into the
office he would occasionally check his Fantasy football team scores and make
changes. After all, if his team won, he would win approximately $1,000! When
he came under investigation for inappropriate internet use, he was stunned
because he was on authorized breaks each time he used the computer to check
on his team. He didn't know this type of Internet use was prohibited. His
supervisor asked him if he read the Policy and Procedure Manual section that
explained appropriate and inappropriate internet usage. He explained that he
was unaware of such a policy because of his limited computer usage.
Discussion Questions: What are the questions or issues that arise in this
scenario? What other options did Allan have which would have complied more
closely with City policy?
