StATTLERIRAT Workplace Expectations for Supervisors
"INDRLMENION
The success of an organization is based on many factors, including effective leadership and fair and
consistent practices. As supervisors of other employees, we are responsible for setting an example for
them to follow, and for ensuring we and our employees understand and follow the Workplace
Expectations.
Provide leadership
and make decisions We will provide leadership and make decisions by:
1) Accepting delegated authority and responsibility for the work
assigned to us and to the employees who report to us, and
providing clear assignments and delegation to those employees;
2) Fostering teamwork and morale by modeling workplace values and
recognizing exemplary performance;
3) Emphasizing the diagnosis and solving of problems, not the fixing of
blame for creating them;
4) Making decisions within the scope of our responsibility, following
through as required, and reporting appropriate information to
affected employees;
5) Ensuring that job instructions and day -to -day directions to
employees who report to us are clearly understood and complete;
6) Communicating and carrying out City ordinances and rules, and
Department policies and procedures;
7) Requesting the resources and guidance we need to get our job
done correctly;
8) Complying with bargaining agreements;
9) Taking responsibility for improving our own skills by looking for
opportunities to expand our skill base and leadership ability;
10) When solving problems, focusing on long -term solutions that
address the root of the problem, rather than on "band aid" solutions
that treat the symptom; and
11) Recognizing the value of employee participation in community
volunteer activities, provided those activities do not conflict with a
Department policy or position.
Page 7 D -04
