Review Draft Eastern Gateway Wetland Restoration Site -- Annual Report
reached design elevations as specified on the grading plan, there was still fill
material in some parts of the site. It is assumed that this fill material most
likely was placed on the site prior to the 1962 topographic survey(check this ?).
A decision was made to continue excavation in those areas where native soil
had not yet been reached. Unearthing the native soil was considered a critical
aspect of the excavation. After excavation was completed, the site was finish
graded and then raked to loosen the top 3 -4 inches of soil in preparation for
'seeding. _
The original design plans estimated 10,604 cubic yards of fill material would be
removed from the site. The decision to excavate to reach native soil resulted in
an additional 9,279.51 cubic yard of fill being hauled off site. In all 19,883.51
cubic yards of fill were removed from the site. The result of this additional
excavation was an increase in the total number of wetland acres restored. The
original grading plan estimated a total of 6.38 acres of wetland would be
restored. However, the as-built survey showed a total of 7.29 acres were
restored. The difference can be accounted for by the decision to extend the
excavation area to remove all earthen fill material from the site.
Planting list
These are the species and amounts of seed that were sown at the East Gateway
wetland mitigation site in the fall/winter of 1993 - 94:
Graminoids:
Agrostis exarata 0 38 lbs
Beckmannia syzigachne (approximately 1.0 lbs.)
Carex densa 1 20 lbs
Carex leporina 0 36 lbs
Carex unilateralis 0 83 Ibs
Deschampsis cespitosa 18.5 lbs
Eleocharis palustris 0 78 lbs
Glyceria occidentalis 0 05 lbs
Hordeum brachyantherum 4 38 Ibs
Juncus tenuis 0 21 lbs
Juncus oxymeris 0 50 lbs
Forbs:
Aster hallii .... 0.84 lbs
Boisduvalia densiflora 0 19 lbs
Brodiaea hyacinthina 0 02 lbs
Camassia quamash 5 00 lbs
Downingia elegans 0 97 lbs
Eryngium petiolatum 0 25 lbs
Gentiana scpetrum (small amount)
Page 7
