Particularly when we have the opportunity to create a protected openspace for <br /> generations to come. Who knows how long we will have the Fed. regs. in place that limit development in <br /> these areas. My guess is that we will see big changes in the criteria for wetland preservation within a <br /> couple of years because of the lobbying folks are doing in Washington. It mystifies me that we are on the <br /> one hand having BLM buying wetland areas for us and on the other contemplating not accepting wetlands. <br /> Seems to me we have forgotten what our goals are, particularly those in the Metro Plan. This has not happened yet. I <br /> understand that some staff may be anxious for the City to <br /> start accepting these natural areas, but we need to be <br /> cautious and not act hastily, until all staff have had a <br /> chance for input on this issue .
