Particularly when we have the opportunity to create a protected openspace for
generations to come. Who knows how long we will have the Fed. regs. in place that limit development in
these areas. My guess is that we will see big changes in the criteria for wetland preservation within a
couple of years because of the lobbying folks are doing in Washington. It mystifies me that we are on the
one hand having BLM buying wetland areas for us and on the other contemplating not accepting wetlands.
Seems to me we have forgotten what our goals are, particularly those in the Metro Plan. Oh well.
I made the mistake to forwarding your note to Joe Ferguson because he wanted the status of the park
area.. I think he misunderstood and went to Johnny Med. Sorry. Donna,
From: WEBER John J
To: STEGNER Donna M
Subject: MD 94 -14 Bramblewood
Date: Thursday, December 29, 1994 2:54PM
Donna,
I just had a conversation with Johnny M. about the park at
Bramblewood and thought I'd send a note to reinforce PW -M's
position regarding the natural area north of the new street.
We cannot officially accept it until the issue paper and
policy surrounding non - developable park land has been
discussed and finalized. This has not happened yet. I
understand that some staff may be anxious for the City to
start accepting these natural areas, but we need to be
cautious and not act hastily, until all staff have had a
chance for input on this issue . It may be that this
modification request is premature and that your office should
not approve it until the appropriate policies are established.
-jw
(ps- after all you don't want to be called for being "off
sides" and receive a 5 yard penalty!)
Page 1
