Ms. Johnston stated that all funds are currently obligated and that there is currently not enough <br /> funding for the Paddock property. She said that the BLM has made a request for additional <br /> funding to both the State and Washington, D.C., adding that the House has $1.5 million and the <br /> Senate has $2.5 million in the appropriations fund for LWCF. Mr. Gordon noted that a letter had <br /> been written to Debbie Weatherly urging support from the House Interior Appropriations <br /> Subcommittee during fall Conference Committee activities. <br /> • Environmental Education Committee Update <br /> Ms. Johnston stated that the 4J School District has moved forward on a planned bond measure <br /> proposal to help fund the Rachel Carson Education Center. She said that because the property <br /> the Center is to be built on is an acquired piece of property there are legal provisions that <br /> preclude building an education center on it Continuing, she stated that it will take an Act of <br /> Congress to clear the way for the construction project. She stressed that, as there are other <br /> components planned for the site it was important to make sure that the Act of Congress would <br /> not somehow preclude the building of them. <br /> • Interim Educational Facility <br /> Ms. Johnston announced that the yurt will be built in August, circa the 15 <br /> • Logo <br /> Ms. Johnston passed out copies of the design choices for the change in logo. Mr. Gordon said <br /> that the Wetheads had recommended the Trajan Bold font with a line in both the color and the <br /> black and white version. <br /> Mr. Stampe moved, with a second by Ms. Dougan, to accept the Wetheads' <br /> recommendation for a new logo. The motion carried unanimously. <br /> Ms. Dougan commented that she had attended a BLM discussion on the proposed changes to <br /> West 11 Avenue and the Beltline. She recommended that the WET pay attention to any <br /> developments. Mr. Corey agreed to keep members abreast of any news on the issue. <br /> C. The Nature Conservancy <br /> • Acquisition Strategy Group <br /> Mr. Alverson stated that the purpose of the group had been to look at top acquisition priorities <br /> and to try to identify additional sources of funding. He noted that the OWEB and NAWCA <br /> grants had come out of the work done by this group.
