U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service <br /> • Coyote Creek National Wildlife Refuge Unit Status Report <br /> Mr. Gordon said the process for creating a wildlife refuge was progressing. He said the process was on the <br /> verge of public involvement. <br /> Ms. Dougan added that any new proposals, such as creating wildlife refuges, needed strong volunteer <br /> community support to be taken seriously by governing agencies. <br /> Ms. Macdonald suggested a discussion on incentives for volunteers in an acquisition team meeting. <br /> G. McKenzie River Trust <br /> • Long Tom Watershed Planning Charrette <br /> Mr. Larsen said the planning charrette had been held to define the role of the Trust in the Long Tom <br /> Watershed. He said a number of agencies had been involved and said the discussion had centered on <br /> priorities for the area and had been quite productive. <br /> VII. WREN <br /> Ms. McRae said many events had been planned with other organizations in the community to celebrate <br /> wetland month. She noted that there was an art exhibit at Cafe Paradiso showing photos of wetland <br /> scenes. She added that as many schools as possible were being encouraged to participate. <br /> Ms. McRae said she had participated in an environmental education event for the Northwest Youth Corps. <br /> She added that she would attend a teacher training the following day. <br /> Ms. Johnston said Steve Gordon would be conducting an owl walk on the next full moon. She added that <br /> May 24 would be the date for the Kalapuya naming ceremony. She said there were three sites in the West <br /> Eugene Wetlands that had been given Kalapuya names. She noted that the local neighborhood group had <br /> been very supportive in the land acquisition of the Gudu -kut site, formerly called the City View wetland. <br /> VIII.
