1 <br /> Mr. Wold said there would be two important mitigation bank projects for the summer. The first was on the <br /> corner of 18 Avenue and Bertelsen. He said the City of Eugene had purchased the property in the <br /> previous year and the project would be to remove fill material and restore the area to upland prairie as well <br /> as restoring an adjacent property owned by The Nature Conservancy that was in a similar condition. <br /> Mr. Duckett distributed maps to those present that provided colored areas showing mitigation areas, <br /> developing areas, and open space. He noted that the map showed the original alignment of Amazon Creek <br /> and Greenhill Tributary. <br /> • West Eugene Wetlands Website <br /> Mr. Wold said the website, hosted by the City of Eugene, was being updated from being primarily <br /> dedicated to land use portions of the wetlands plan to emphasize the natural and recreational features and <br /> make the site more user friendly. He noted that activities for National Wetlands Month had also been <br /> posted. He asked that those who had ideas for improving the site get in touch with him to share ideas. <br /> B. Bureau of Land Management <br /> • Wetlands Education Center Update: Business Plan, Funding <br /> Ms. Johnston distributed a copy of the new business plan for the wetlands education center. She said she <br /> would be able to get more copies of the plan for those who were interested. She reported that the Bethel <br /> School District had come forward to participate in the first phase of the project. She said the center <br /> construction would begin in the next spring. She said the start date was depending on two grants that were <br /> still pending. <br /> • Wetlands Education Program Update <br /> Regarding the education program update, Ms. Johnston said that the summer months would not have so <br /> much to do with school groups and noted that there would be evening programs for the public to come and <br /> Learn about the wetlands. She added that the partnership with public works was expanding to include the <br /> recreation program of the City to see how educational opportunities could be expanded. <br /> • Cooperative Conservation Initiative Funding Opportunity <br /> Mr. Calish said there was an initiative in the Department of the Interior, which was called Cooperative <br /> Conservation Initiative. He said $5 million had been set aside for CCI initiatives but there had not been <br /> enough proposals to use that amount of funding. He said Lane Council of Governments and the City of <br /> Eugene had put together a proposal to use the remaining funds. He said the money would be used in the <br /> channelization work in Dragonfly bend. He said he remained optimistic about ultimately receiving the <br /> funding. <br /> In response to a question from Mr. Schoening regarding local match funds, Mr. Calish said the work that <br /> the City of Eugene had already done met the requirements for a 1 to 1 local match. <br /> • Grants: Spirit Mountain, Murdock <br /> Regarding grants, Ms. Johnston remarked that there had been a lot of work with WREN on grant <br /> proposals.
