Box 10226
Eugene, OR 97440 -2226
Dear Jock:
I received your letter of April 21, 1997, proposing a joint analysis of a possible community park
and adjacent natural area purchase in Southwest Eugene. The Parks and Recreation Plan
indicates a need for a community park within this general area, however, we have found it
difficult to locate a parcel of sufficient size that is free of conflicting environmental constraints.
Approximately 30 acres of land, which can be fully developed, is required to allow for the full
range of activities generally associated with a community scale park.
I understand that the proposed parcel has yet to be evaluated for its potential as a community
park by City of Eugene Parks Planning staff, but that this work should be completed within the
next couple of weeks. Two primary City issues in need of research are:
1.) Determining if the acquisition would meet the criteria for funding with Park Systems
Development Fund (SDF).
2.) If SDF can be used, finding a purchase option or acquisition time line matching the SDF
revenue projections.
I have assigned Johnny Medlin to coordinate City staff efforts with your agency on this project. I
look forward to receiving a report on the status of this joint acquisition proposal in the next
couple of weeks.
Sincerely,
ALOSIllf e/W
Bob Hanunitt
Maintenance Director
cc: Mayor and City Council
Chris Andersen
Johnny Medlin
