Our interest focuses on
the Cuddeback property in west Eugene located on the south side of W. 11 near Beltline Road and
west of 13` Street and Willow Creek Racquet Club.
At the February wetlands partnership meeting John Etter and John Weber briefed the group on the
planning efforts for a neighborhood park in the West Eugene area. They originally identified the
Eugene Speedway property but were quickly discouraged because of environmental constraints. The
Partnership recommended looking at the adjacent Cuddeback property because of a number of obvious
advantages:
1. It is currently on the open market.
2. It has adequate size, location, and few environmental constraints.
3. It offers potential to provide opportunity to have a dual purpose recreational facility, by acquiring
the adjacent protected wetlands through a joint acquisition with the BLM.
The wetlands located on the Cuddeback property are a high priority for the West Eugene Wetland
Partnership. BLM was unsuccessful in its efforts to purchase these lands in 1994. Recent contact
with Randy Cuddeback indicates he is willing to listen to our proposal and options. Presently he is
working on development plans for the parcel which includes the extension of 13` Avenue.
