ESTCC, NL.ART Page 1
Stormwater Volunteers Recognized for Adopting Local Natural Areas
You are invited to join Mayor Ruth Bascom on Tuesday, May 16, from 7 - 8:30 p.m., at-the Eugene Public
Library as she recognizes six groups for their "adoption" of a local creek or pond. These groups will receive
certificates that recognize their willingness to make a one- to two -year commitment to become stewards of a
stream, wetland, or pond in Eugene. The six groups include the McKinley Neighbors for adopting Amazon
Creek from City View to Oak Patch; Friends of Delta Ponds for adopting Delta Ponds; Friends of Dianna's
Pond for adopting Dianna's Pond; Central Presbyterian Church for adopting Willow Creek Wetlands;
Southeast Neighborhood Association for adopting the Upper Amazon Creek; and Miracle on 33rd Street
Neighbors for adopting Amazon Creek from 30th to 33rd avenues. Adoption activities will include litter
cleanups, vegetation removal, storm drain stenciling, habitat restoration, and construction projects. The
groups are part of the volunteer component of the Stormwater Management Program, known as the Eugene
Stream Team.
A lecture and slide show titled "Wild Flowers and Habitat of Eugene's Wetlands," by Ed Alverson of the
Nature Conservancy will follow the presentation of certificates. For more information about the event, call
Ruth Koenig at 465 -2814 or Bob Hammitt at 687 -5221.
d.• I ma int l estccnL art
