• The process to establish new development standards will continue through the DAC, with adoption <br /> of final standards in permit year three. <br /> • Stormwater system modeling will be initiated and drainage basin plans developed. <br /> Education BMPs <br /> Eight educational BMPs are being implemented to inform the public, the commercial/industrial sector, and <br /> in -house staff about the sources and causes of stormwater pollution, its effect on local receiving waters, and <br /> to encourage active involvement (volunteerism) to reduce stormwater pollution. <br /> Accomplishments during the first year include: <br /> • Developed and distributed 53 units of the K -2 grade "Stormwater Pollution Learn and Share" <br /> (SPLASH) curriculum (See window "SPLASH"). <br /> • Developed and distributed 51 units of the 3 -5 grade SPLASH school curriculum program. <br /> • Pilot tested a SPLASH unit for middle school students, grades 6 -8. <br /> • Established the Eugene Stream Team, a volunteer program encouraging stream adoption, pollution <br /> monitoring, storm drain stenciling, litter and debris clean up, and vegetation management (see window <br /> "Eugene Stream Team "). <br /> l i • Completed first follow up survey to the 1993 Stormwater Public Opinion Survey. The purpose of <br /> the follow up survey was to measure changes, if any, in the community's level of understanding regarding <br /> stormwater management from 1993 to 1995 (see window). More information on the survey is contained in <br /> g Y <br /> the document "Stormwater Management Tracking Study, Spring 1995," prepared by Scudder and Associates. <br /> During permit year two a number of significant activities will be implemented in this category: <br /> • Finalization and distribution of the SPLASH curriculum for middle school students. <br /> • Public outreach through a bus mural advocating the stormwater pollution prevention. <br /> • Additional outreach to businesses in conjunction with MON BMPs. <br /> • Promotion of the Eugene Stream Team's stream adoption program, storm drain stenciling activities, <br /> and other volunteer opportunities. <br /> 6 <br /> • <br />
