currently exists to the next existing manhole at 22nd Ave. In addition to increasing
the system's upstream capacity at 24th and 25th Aves.the pipe would serve as the
trunk line for the 22nd Ave. portion of the proposed bubbler catch basin intercon-
nection project mentioned in item no.4 and detailed in the attached memo. and
maps.
Status: Engineering is currently researching possible design options and easement
acquisalion.
4. Bubbler Catch Basin Interconnection Project:
Selected areas for proposed bubbler interconnect pilot project.
See attached memorandum. and accompanying maps for details.
5. Location: W 34th Ave. drainage complex (Note: this will be identified as a
separate project in the CIP)
Nature of Problem: Drainage system originating at City limits along both Sundial
and W 40th Ave reverts between piped and open drainage until finally entering
piped system to the Amazon near W 34th and Olive (S3W1- 5911). A number of
24 ", 27 ", and 30" diameter pipe segments along the mid section of this system
downstream from larger 33" and 36" pipe segments appear to restrict capacity of
the system to handle additional flows from increased development.
Example: 36" pipe originating at grated manhole behind 384 Delwood
(S4W 1 -5136) reverts to a 24" pipe segment at Delwood (S4W 1 -5134 to
S4W1- 5133), then back to 36" pipe until outletting to open drainage just north
of W 37th Ave. (S4W 1- 5915). It then reenters 24" pipe behind W 35th Pl.
(S4W1- 5922), outlets to open drainage at Frederick (S3W1- 5937), then reenters
33" pipe west of Olive (S3W 1 -5911) that is shortly restricted to a 27" segment
along W 34th Ave. (S3W1 -5089 to S3W1- 5087). Pipe system alternates
between 30" and 36" segments along E 33rd Ave. until it outlets to the Amazon.
The area cited in the above example, the mid and lower section of this drainage
complex, appears to harbor the potential for creating surcharging and /or localized
flooding conditions at the various diameter restrictions and inlet choke points as
additional flows are introduced to the system from upstream development.
Recommended Solution: Conduct flow analysis of entire system based on the
projected full development of the drainage basin. Study feasibility of reconstructing
sections and /or pipe segments of the existing system that do not meet design stan-
dards necessary to adequately service flows based on full basin development.
Acquire necessary easement from new development to allow maintenance access to
the grated manhole inlet to the piped system behind 384 Delwood St. (S4W1-
5136). Also, enclose the short section of open drainage to pipe between 36" outlet
oplist.upd 7/95 bne 3
