MEMORANDUM
January 15, 1992
TO: John Emmons, Transportation Supervisor
FROM: Ben Bonner, Tree Maintenance Supervisor
SUBJECT: TREE TRIMMING REQUIREMENTS FOR APWA PROJECTS FOR OVERHEAD CABLE
Thanks for the opportunity for input on regulations concerning the pruning of
trees for the installation of overhead cable. Jan Staszewski and I got
together and agreed that we'd like to see the following regulations regarding
the pruning of trees by a contractor:
1) The contractor is required to employ a licensed professional Tree
Trimming Service for the pruning /cutting of any trees.
2) All pruning will be done according to he latest National Arborist
Association Pruning Standards for Shade Trees. (A copy of these
standards is attached)
3) City Tree Maintenance staff will have the final approval over the
methods and standards used to prune /cut trees.
Let me know if these requirements will cause you any problems. If so, we can
discuss the issue further.
cc: Bob Hammitt
Gene Shutt
Jan Staszewski
