SUMMARY
Our workplanning process has been very enlightening and has given us hope that our
escalating workload can be effectively managed. We see ourselves in an environment
with increasing demands from both external and internal customers while our staffing
has remained static. We believe that an annual workplan, updated weekly, coupled
with a priority system and staffing appropriate to the work requirements, will help us
achieve our goal of ensuring public safety within the urban forest. The proposals in this
report require a number of policy decisions. The fundamental decisions are:
1. What is to be the mix of services offered by the Arboriculture Section?
2. What level of tree care does the City wish to provide its citizens?
3. Should the Department seek support from Gas Tax revenue to increase staffing and
services?
4. Is the Mission Statement acceptable?
5. Is the Priority System acceptable?
