As mentioned, NeighborWoods funds are from the
road fund and we are unable to use these for off street bike paths. Nevertheless, I am attempting to locate
sufficient funds to plant some trees along the bike path between City View and Bailey Hill Road. This part
of the path is really in need of some relief from the sun and groups of trees would enhance the path and
make it more enjoyable to use. There are relations with the Army Corp of Engineers, West Eugene Wetland
Enhancement project and other areas like ditch maintenance that I am investigating to assure the final
design of tree groups meets requirements, expectations, future development plans and maintenance
needs. I am working with the idea that volunteers will plant and perhaps provide watering maintenance for
establishment of the trees. The planting would be scheduled for this fall /winter.
I will attempt to have trees included along the bike path west of Bailey Hill Road as part of the
enhancement project for the amazon. If this is not possible, I will try to include this section with the other
tree planting east of Bailey Hill or plan for it in the next budget year. Let me know your thoughts on this
plan.
Thanks Scott
Page 1
