r
June 26, 1995

RE: Notice To Abate Violation Of Street Tree Standards
Located At
Dear Resident and /or Property Owner:
For the past severer months, the City of Gresham has engaged in an
active campaign to inform people about street tree trimming and
maintenance requirements. Street trees (trees located within the
public right -of -way) add a great deal to neighborhoods, but they
can cause problems if they are not properly maintained.
Overgrown tree limbs and branches can harm pedestrians, block
traffic signs, and impede street sweepers, mail vehicles, and
other service vehicles from reaching curbs.
So far, out of an initial list of approximately 900 properties,
over property owners have responded to the campaign by
trimming their trees to meet City standards. Our campaign
included two prior notices to properties that had out of
compliance trees, a great deal of contact with these property
owners, and the City offered a free tree trimming disposal
service.
You are ere receiving this letter because the street trees located : in
front of the property listed above are in violation of City
standards. If the trees are not trimmed to City standards
(please see insert regarding tree trimming standards), within 10
days of your receiving this notice, the City will trim the trees
and you will be billed for the service.
The billing will include the costs of personal services,
materials, disposal, and administrative overhead. If the billing
is not paid within 30 days, it may become a lien against your
property.
We encourage you to join your neighbors and other Gresham
residents who are maintaining the safety and beauty of our
community by properly trimming street trees. If you feel that
your street trees meet City standards, please send us a written
statement to that effect by Tuesday, July 11. The written
statement may be sent to J.C. Davis, Department of Environmental
Services, 2123 S.L. Hogan, Gresham, Oregon 97030. A hearing with
the Gresham City Council will be scheduled to consider your case.
We apologize to any person receiving this notice who has trimmed
their street trees since we last checked.
If you have any questions, please contact the Department of
Environmental Services Transportation Division at 60g/-2426, or
the Office of Customer Relations at 669- 2668.
Thanks For Working With Us!
