t
STATUS REPORT ON THE STREET TREE INVENTORY
as of 12/06/94
In July of 1994 the tree crew obtained a street tree inventory
system /software and a work order processing system from the RJN group from
Wheaton, Illinois. The software was installed September 12th.
Installation included some system modification, tree code identification, and
three days of training was provided to tree crew and maintenance planning
personnel. The instructor (Scott Rebman) provided by RJN, as well as his
presentation, were excellent. This initial training centered around entering
data and moving around within the system.
Mr. Rebman returned during the third week in November for a second
session. This training covered service requests and work orders. The front
office staff was introduced to service requests during this visit. It
was decided that the tree crew would implement the new system sometime
after the new year when Mr. Rebman returns for a third training session.
Currently the tree crew staff is using the new system on a
limited trial basis. It has been easy to use and appears to be user friendly.
An added advantage is that this system has been in use by the sewer crew for 1
1/2 years. Their familiarity with the system helped the tree crew
adjust to the system.
The third training session is to provide the basic information for our
street tree inventory as well as two data collection devices. Bob Blanchard
and John Luther will be contacting Mr. Rebman on or around the 19th of
December to see what needs to be done concerning tree codes. We will be
gathering this information and developing tree codes prior to his arrival. We
