Middle Amazon Creek
( • To allow adequate conveyance, NO plants should be near bridges. Leave a distance of
approximately one bridge width on either side of each bridge unplanted. Leave 20 feet
unplanted centering on each outfall.
• Black cottonwood should not be planted near structures, facilities, or gathering places,
because older trees have a tendency to shed branches and frequently fail. Similarly, as
trees mature they may need to be removed in areas where they put humans at risk.
However, in some areas, it is desirable to maintain a younger, vigorous stand of
cottonwoods and standing snags, that pose little risk to humans, to serve as habitat trees.
• Along the fairgrounds, the north bank can be planted, while the south bank should remain
open to allow for potential future widening. Passive revegetation of the south bank should
be permitted, but willow cuttings should be used to plant the toe of the south slope to
provide for cover until any future widening occurs.
• Creek widening may also be feasible through Westmoreland Park, but there are no
established plans at the time of this report.
Cluster diagram example (to accommodate mowing requirements)
Top of Bank < 10 -20' > < 10 -20"
Upper Bank
Lower Bank
Creek
C.
Plants Total Number Plants Planting
Latin Name Common Name Qty of Plants spacing Zone
Both per within
Banks Clusters Clusters
Fraxinus latifolia Oregon ash 40 2 -4 10' 1 & 2
,,, Pinus ponderosa Ponderosa pine 4 1 - 1
L-; Populus balsamifera ssp.
