2/22/93
BRUSH DISPOSAL PROGRAM
We have already begun to receive inquires and requests from property owners
regarding disposal of brush from damaged trees on private property. Under
normal conditions, it is complete responsibility of the property owner to
maintain their own trees as well as to dispose of any prunings or brush.
Because of the devastating nature of this storm we are going to undertake a
two week brush disposal program. We will not advertise the program in the
media, however, when inquires are received respond to them in the following
manner.
Disposal of tree pruning and limbs from private property is the responsibility
of the property owner. We would encourage property owners to dispose of their
damaged trees themselves, as the City is going to be inundated with disposal
of City street trees. For property owners that feel getting rid of the
prunings and brush will create a hardship for them we will allow them to
transport the materials to one of three brush disposal sites. The three brush
disposal sites we will operate until March 5 are:
1) the west lot at 1820 Roosevelt Blvd.
2) the north parking lot at Alton Baker Park
3) the east half of the parking lot at Amazon ballfield
(24th /Amazon Parkway)
Material may be left at these three sites during weekdays during daylight
hours. The City will only accept material from trees as a result of the storm
damage. Lawn clippings or other material will not be allowed at the sites.
The sites will be marked so that people can see where to dump. Commercial
tree companies are not allowed to dump at these sites. They are only for the
benefit of property owners that do not have other means of disposal. Be sure
they understand that this program is this one time only.
It will be the responsibility of the property owner to move all of the
material from their property and transport it to a site. If property owners
have technical questions about trees or have a hazard on their own property
they should contact a private tree service. We cannot recommend a particular
tree service and can only refer them to the yellow pages.
If a property owner has absolutely no means to transport the material and
pleads a case of hardship, we may instruct the property owner to pile the
brush on the street near the curb for City pickup. If any property owners
that do this should notify the front office of the address of the pile. Any
pile that we are not notified of by March 5 will be the responsibility of the
property owner to remove. Be sure property owners understand this. Piling
debris on streets should be the exception not the practice.
Adrian Stansfield is designated to be the person as the overall coordinator
for the brush cleanup effort. Ben Bonner and Richard Zucker will assist
Adrian. Ben will be in charge of field operations and in particular will
