City of Eugene
Human Resource and Risk Services Policies
7 -600 ACCIDENT AND LIABILITY COVERAGE FOR VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are defined as individuals who participate in unpaid work activities
sponsored by and under the direct supervision of the City.
Recognizing the valuable services performed by volunteers for the City, it is the
desire of the City to compensate volunteers for injuries suffered while performing
these services.
With the exception of volunteer firefighters and reserve police officers, volunteers are
not covered under the City's Workers' Compensation program.
A. Policy
1. Accidental Injury
City volunteers who suffer accidental injury as a direct result of their
duties as a volunteer, have the following maximum coverage through
the City:
(a) Accidental Death $5,000
(b) Accidental Dismemberment $5,000
(c) Accidental Medical Expense $2,500
(d) Accidental Dental Expense $ 250
The maximum paid under this policy would be $8,000 given a com-
bination of the limits listed above.
The word "injury" as used means accidental bodily injury, from which
loss results directly and independently from all other causes, sustained
by the volunteer, provided such injury occurs while participating in
volunteer work activities sponsored by the City and such participation
is under the direct supervision of the City.
Benefits indicated above are not available to volunteer
fire - fighters and reserve police officers, since they are covered under
the City's Workers' Compensation program.
The benefits provided above will be paid secondary to or in excess of
Human Resource and Risk Services 06 /30/91
Revised: 06/01/93
