r V
MEMORANDUM
DATE: August 30, 1993
TO: County Commissioners
From: Eugene Urban Forester
SUBJECT: COMPARISONS BETWEEN THE COUNTY TREE CONSERVATION AND PROTECTION
CODE, THE NEW EUGENE TREE PRESERVATION CODE AND THE PREVIOUS
EUGENE TREE PRESERVATION CODE.
Attached is a summary chart highlighting the major difference in between the
County and the new and previous City tree protection codes. The chart compare
the codes section by section, however the greatest difference between the
County's and new and old City tree codes is based on differing intends of each
code.
The County's code was written to accommodate the zoning which includes
agricultural /forestry operations. City's old code weakly mirrored the intent
of the County's code by allowing large scale commercial operations within the
city, but without some of the detailed restrictions imposed by County
regulations.
The new City code recognizes that lands within the city are not zoned for
forestry, but for urban development. Any large scale tree removal must be
part of an approved development plan with emphasis on preserving the forested
appearance of the site.
For more information contact the Urban Forester at 687 -5359.
neighb \county.1et
