DISTRk3UTED TO: .
• YOR
CITY MANAGER D '° •' ' ONLY cc -
BY :t. R
JUL 11993 Genies t0: TMGR
Dear Mayor Bascom,
I wanted to write you concerning two issues the city council
has dealt with lately. First, I totally support the tree ordinance
as it is written. It seems to be good balance of protecting the
envireonment and aesthetic needs of Eugene citizens while allowing
flexibilty for the owners of individual lots. And I do not object
to the manner in which it was passed, it avoided developers rushing
to cut trees to beat a deadline.
The other issue is that of the West Eugene Parkway. I believe
this project will create the kind of ugly urban sprawl(Los-
Angelesization) that many in Eugene deeply desire to avoid. It is
also a waste of money. I would rather spend our money on
alternative transportation, and if we are going to have a road
project, I would prefer improving already existing roads like
Beltline.
I used to live in Ashland, and Ashland is an incredibly
beautiful city, largely because the towns decision makers have
routinely judged projects by their effect on the health, beauty,
and ambiance of the town, not pure business and convenience needs.
I hope Eugene willbecome a city like that.
Yours truly,
Kim Krichbaum
2357 1/2 Onyx
Eugene, Or. 97403
)24.
