•
Page 4
July 24, 1996
Reference: Tree Assessment
Location: West Broadway /Lincoln Street
Subject: Construction Trauma
The tree condition and structure is much like tree number one
except there is a multitude of trunks, many codominate stems,
some with included bark layers, poor structure and severe decay
areas where the tree was topped approximately 34 years ago.
The overall structure of the tree could be improved with proper
pruning and cabling, but the tree would have to be maintained
on a yearly bases. Even if this was accomplished the first severe
winter storm that Eugene, Oregon was subjected to makes this
tree a prime candidate for extensive breakage.
The health as mentioned is fair to good, but symptoms of stress
is obvious in the upper canopy, resulting in limb die back and
yellowing undersized leaves.
I believe this tree is struggling and with the forthcoming
construction the tree will not be able to survive, regardless
of the care and preservation program established for it.
TREE NUMBER THREE:
Black — walnut
This tree is located 22 feet north and west of the stop sign
at the intersection of West Broadway and Lincoln Street. It
is growing in a 9.6 foot by 14 foot parking strip.
The tree has a DBH of 28 inches and a DGL of 36.4 inches. The
highest point is 75 feet and it has a diameter limb spread of
60 feet. Estimated age 75 years.
Although the tree is growing in a confined area it is doing
very well. The health and structure is very good to excellent.
