Page 5
July 24, 1996
Reference: Tree Assessment
Location: West Broadway /Lincoln Street
Subject: Construction Trauma
The drilling showed excellent structure and no discoloring of
wood. The trunks and limbs are very sound and though it has
suffered some improper pruning, the wounds have or are sealing
very nicely. The tree suffered little or no damage from past
winter storms. The leaf is of good size, there is no signs of
discoloration or die back.
The root system on Black- walnut trees are much larger and go
deeper than the Oregon Big Leaf -maple trees and therefore are
much stronger and more efficient and they do very well while
under construction providing they are under the supervision
of a consulting arborist.
I believe every effort should be taken to preserve this tree
during the forthcoming construction.
If I can be of further assistance in this matter or if more
in -depth investigation is needed please call me.
Sincerely,
David Halstead B.S. C.A.
