Eugene Water & Electric Board
EWEB 500 East 4th Avenue
Post Office Box 10148
Eugene, Oregon 97440 -2148 541.484.2411 Fax 541.484.3762
April 18, 1996
City of Eugene
ATTN: Scott Plamondon, City Forester
1820 Roosevelt Boulevard
Eugene, Oregon 97402
Dear Mr. Plamondon:
I would like to bring to your attention a small stand of big leaf maple trees at the intersection of
Woodland Drive and Spring Boulevard. On January 20, 1996, we were called to this location by
Commissioners
Dorothy Anderson the Eugene Fire Department to respond to a power outage and a tree arcing in the power lines.
Stec C utis This outage effected 56 EWEB customers in this area.
Mike Dyer
Jeff Osanke On April 11, 1996, I dispatched our contracted tree crew to trim the area around the pole so we
Susan Smith could avoid this type of unsafe situation in the future. Mr. Ogle, 2540 Woodland Drive, came
General Manager out and stopped the contractors and refused to let the crew trim the trees. I visited the site and
Randy L Berggren found Mr. Ogle to be quite unreasonable about this situation.
After reviewing the trees, it appeared that the trees may belong to the City of Eugene, not Mr.
Ogle. I called your office and talked with Mike and he met with me on April 12, 1996 and we
came to the conclusion they were the City of Eugene's trees.
Due to the size of the tree's and the species, it will be difficult for us to trim to Standard 90 -3 -90,
as per our Intragovernmental Agreement with the City of Eugene. It is EWEB's recommendation
to remove the tree's in question and replace them with vine maple at EWEB's expense.
Please examine this situation and get back to us at your earliest convenience, to insure the
neighborhood adequate safety and reliability of the EWEB system.
Sincerely, J o h ..nvy "r/ /
4 ,.
- Brad Edwards i-/ C of /if ✓ u
Tree Trim Co- ordinator h 7owt- // ,// r ,
7 eS Ze get— kit V`
je
