Project IEP CittEugene- Hatmaker- Johnston
6.0 Design and Conduct Project and Program Evaluation and Dissemination
6.1 Design process and outcome evaluations. Prepare draft protocol.
6.2 Involve architects, interpretive specialists and educators in the evaluation process. Finalize protocol.
6.3 Conduct program evaluation and analyze data. Inform partners in the evaluation process.
6.3.1 Examine the process (Did we do what we said we would do? Did we produce what we said we would
produce ?).
6.3.2 Examine outcomes. Evaluate effectiveness of program (How well did we do the tasks we set out to
accomplish? How effective are the products we produced ?).
6.4 Conduct project evaluation and analyze data. Inform City of Eugene administrators of preliminary results.
6.4.1 Determine overall project effectiveness.
6.4.2 Determine lessons learned.
6.5 Orient project staff and partnership committee to evaluation results.
6.6 Utilize evaluation results for project management and program improvement.
6.7 Assist in final preparation and dissemination of products related to interpretive theme unification and docent
training materials.
6.8 Prepare and submit final reports to the funding agency and to all involved administrators.
6.9 Participate in workshops and conferences, as available. Conduct local presentations.
6.10 Prepare article/s for publication in professional journal/s.
Methods (Note: This is a planning project that does not require Protection of Human Subjects.).
Used in the Development of the Interpretive Plan: Group processes are used to collaboratively design a
comprehensive Interpretive Plan that promotes public education about the wetlands. This planning process involves
members of the partnering agencies and other community professionals. Interpretive Specialists, Architects, Landscape
Architects, a Botanist and a Recreational Specialist will work with the City of Eugene Wetlands Manager, BLM Wetlands
Project Manager, and other project staff to develop and refine the Interpretive Plan. In addition to the planning/group
processes, team members' individual contributions are essential components used to develop the overall Interpretive Plan.
All contributions are occupation- specific (e.g., architectural drawings, interpretative templates, business plan).
Used in the Development of Educational Materials: Text, lesson plans and sample activities are developed,
formatted and placed in a 3 -ring binder to make it easier to add, subtract or revise portions without incurring increased
production costs. Photographs are taken of wetland plants, animals and wildlife habitats and included in the final docent
training manual. Artists' renderings will also be created and included. As sections of the docent training manual are
developed, they are printed and pilot tested. (Public school teachers with interest and /or experience in environmental
education make up the pool of individuals selected to participate in this pilot testing process. Human Subjects protection
is not required for evaluation.) Following feedback, the materials are refined and a second draft is printed for
distribution to selected adult readers, some of whom may have been involved in the initial pilot testing process.
