e
Earmarked Applicant - Page 2
Following the award of your grant, a U.S. Department of Education staff member who will serve
as your project monitor will contact you to conduct a post award conference. The post award
conference will focus on the proposed project goals, objectives and outcomes as stated in the
application and on ways in which project progress will be assessed. The comments provided by
the reviewer of your grant application will be discussed. The primary purpose of this
conference is to begin a partnership between you and the Department as a means of achieving
desired project objectives.
A list of frequently asked questions is enclosed. We recommend that you review this document
carefully as it can help you avoid some common mistakes in writing your application and in
determining your various budget categories. Avoiding these mistakes will help us process your
application quickly. Two areas of concern that many applicants have are whether or not they
may sub -grant funds to another organization and whether or not they may pay for construction
costs. Neither of these activities is allowed under the FIE program unless it is specifically
written in the earmark language. A more complete discussion of these issues in contained in the
enclosed "Frequently Asked Questions" document.
We look forward to working with you.
