• Metropolitan Sports Commissior <br /> Minutes of May 20, 1996 - Page 2 <br /> City of Eugene will be developing the fairground site as the temporary indoor soccer <br /> facility instead of the Rasor Park site. <br /> Marketing Committee Report <br /> The marketing questionnaire has gone out to groups that held events last year. <br /> Larry Mann has been assigned to the marketing committee. <br /> Would like to have someone in the Register Guard help us with media to facilitate our <br /> progress. Larry Mann related that we need to get information out to the public about <br /> where we are headed, in case we have to ask for money later. John Conrad suggested that <br /> we use him as our contact and then in the long run it could be delegated to someone else. <br /> Mayor Bill suggested that Howard Wade be the media contact for the Commission. <br /> Barbara Keller felt that might be OK for a short term but would like the Marketing <br /> Committee to take up the issue and report back next time with a recommendation. <br /> Participation Committee Report <br /> The participation committee hasn't met, they have been working with the facilities <br /> committee. <br /> Announcements & Update on events <br /> Sandy Vaughan discussed the problem that the Recreational Sports Program at the <br /> University of Oregon is having with temporary sport field space. She wanted to know if <br /> anyone had some pull to help with acquiring temporary space at the Riverfront Research <br /> Park. Barbara Keller will talk to City staff to see what the City of Eugene can do. <br /> Memorial Day Classic will be held at Thurston High School. There will be 136 teams <br /> participating, with over half of them from outside the Metro areas. <br /> Springfield School District is planning on building 3 new buildings. They are 10 to 15 <br /> years out from 3 soccer fields, a football field, 4 baseball fields, and a softball field. <br /> Warsaw Marketing May Leadership Class will have Neal Pilson, former President of CBS <br /> Sports on May 22, at 138 Gilbert Hall, at 4:00 p.m. and on May 30, 180 Prince Lucien <br /> Campbell Hall, at 4:00, Women in Sports Business Symposium. Guest Speakers include: <br /> Lesley Visser, Sportscaster, ABC/ESPN, Sue Levin, Director Women's Sports marketing, <br /> NIKE, Sharon Higdon, VP Marketing Portland Trail Blazers. <br /> Neat Meeting will be at 12:00, July 22,1996, at CVALCO, 115 W 8th, Suite 190, <br /> Eugene, Oregon <br />
