Metropolitan Sports Commission <br /> c o DSD, 225 5th Suet - Spixgfek/ OR 97477 <br /> Minutes of May 20, 1996 <br /> The Metropolitan Sports Commission met at the City of Eugene Hilyard Community <br /> Center. <br /> Commissioners Present: Mayor Bill Morrisette, City of Springfield; Bob Josephson, <br /> Kidsports; Barbara Keller, City of Eugene; Sal Piazza, CVALCO; Steve Barrett <br /> Springfield School District; Wayne Hill Willamalane Park & Recreation District; Sandy <br /> Vaughn, University of Oregon; Jim Denker, Eugene 4J School District; Bob Creed, LCC; <br /> and At -Large Commissioners: Charles Warren, Larry Mann. <br /> Also Attending: John Conrad, Register Guard; Susan Belanger, Ice Sports; Dick Lee, <br /> Broad Base; Jim Johnson, City of Eugene; Howard Wade & Kaye Wilson, City of <br /> Springfield; Kevin Hanson & Mrs Hanson; and Dr.Richard Ellingboe. <br /> Mayor Bill Morrisette opened the meeting and the minutes were approved. <br /> Nominating Committee <br /> The nominating Committee met and interviewed the candidates, recommending that Larry <br /> Mann to fill the At -Large Commissioner vacancy. Bob Josephson suggested that we <br /> accept the nominating committee recommendation. It was voted and approved that Larry <br /> Mann fill the At -Large Position vacated by Al King. <br /> Charlie Warren suggested that we invoke our by -laws and check on the attendance record <br /> of Melanie. Mayor Bill asked staff to verify the record and if there had been three or more <br /> absences without notification he would write a letter declaring the position vacant. <br /> Implementation Report <br /> Randy Pape invited Jim Johnson and Bob Josephson to address the Southern Willamette <br /> Valley Leadership Council of the Oregon Community Foundation on the Commission's <br /> recommendations for funding new facilities in this area. Randy suggested that the <br /> Commission request around $40,000. This amount could be used for planning, research <br /> or development since they usually prefer not to fund construction. The facilities <br /> Committee will come back with an action plan. <br /> Eugene City Council has given their Public Works department money for upgrading Parks <br /> and Recreation facilities and some sport fields. The inventory plan will assist them in <br /> moving forward. <br /> Willamalane will be seeking a 14 million capital bond and will be working with Springfield <br /> School District in planning future sports facilities. <br />
