This variance can be attributed to a longer growing season which required multiple
mowing's in 2011. The City -owned properties included in this program include right -of-
way vision clear zone areas, natural resource areas and Planning and Development
Department owned properties.
The cost to mow City owned properties this year remained consistent with 2010 at
$7,268.25 and $7,173.25 respectively. Just two years ago in 2009, City work orders cost
$8,131.80. The 2011 costs reflect an 11 % decrease form 2009 costs. Due to spring rain,
site conditions were wetter this year requiring two work orders on most City sites to
address visual clear zone, sidewalk and other obstructions using hand labor and finishing
any firebreak and other obstructions during the second cutting when the site conditions
were dryer.
Because we have an existing mowing contract, we assist the Planning and Development
Department by coordinating mowing activities on properties they own. In 2011,
$2,953.25 was expended on Planning and Development owned properties, a considerable
increase from the $1,550.96 paid the previous year. The price increase can be attributed
to multiple mowing's required due to a longer growing season in 2011. Currently, the
12
